American Family Insurance ALL-USA Wrestling First and Second Team

USA TODAY High School Sports is proud to announce its second annual American Family Insurance ALL-USA Wrestling Team.

This team was compiled by Jason Bryant of MatTalkOnline.com. Bryant has covered high school, college and Olympic-level wrestling for more than 20 years and is president of the National Wrestling Media Association.

Mark HallApple Valley, Minn.170 pounds, Jr.Five-time high school state champion, junior Mark Hall is eyeing his sixth state championship. He finished with a record of 42-0. Cade OlivasSt. John Bosco, Calif.106 pounds, Fr.Regarded as the top middle school wrestler in the country the last few years, Olivas entered his first high school season with a ton of hype. The freshman lived up to it, going 46-0 as a freshman to win the 106-pound state championship in one-class California. Olivas became only the 14th California wrestler to win a state championship as a freshman. He’s ranked No. 1 in all major high school rankings. Photo: Robert Preston

Spencer LeeFranklin Regional, Pa.120 pounds, So.Lee is a two-time member of the ALL-USA first team after capturing his second straight Pennsylvania 3A state championship. Lee helped lead Franklin Regional to state team and individual tournament titles. Went 48-0 and pinned three straight opponents en route to the 120-pound title. Chad RedNew Palestine, Ind.126 Pounds, Jr.Red has never lost in high school regular-season competition. He capped his junior season with his third individual state championship, topping Portage’s Gaige Torres 9-2 to run his career record to 139-0. Jared PrincePalm Harbor University, Fla.132 pounds, Sr.Prince felt as if he had something to prove this season. After finishing the season with an astounding 71-0 record, Prince jumped on a flight a day after winning his third state title to wrestle at the prestigious Dapper Dan All-Star match in Pennsylvania. Matthew KolodzikBlair Academy, N.J.138 pounds, Sr.The Princeton-bound native of Ohio won his third National Prep championship with four falls and a technical fall. Michael KemererFranklin Regional, Pa.145 pounds, Sr.Went 41-0 during his senior season to win his first Pennsylvania state high school championship. Was a state runner-up each of his first three seasons. Finished regular season with a 41-0 record and in December won the Walsh Ironman, one of the nation’s toughest high school tournaments. Isaiah WhiteOak Park and River Forest, Ill.152 pounds, Jr.White bumped up two weight classes this season and won his second Illinois 3A state championship, finishing his season 36-0. White also picked up notable in-season victories over ALL-USA second-teamer Vincenzo Joseph in the finals of the Walsh Ironman. Zahid ValenciaSt. John Bosco, Calif.182 pounds, Sr.Elite wrestlers jumping multiple weights and continuing to be successful isn’t exactly eye-opening, but when they jump six weight classes and 50 pounds, people notice. Valencia repeats as an ALL-USA first team selection, but last season he was at 132 pounds. Joined by brother Anthony as a three-time state champion, Zahid became the 21st wrestler in California history to accomplish the feat. Went 36-0. Signed with Arizona State. Photo: Robert Preston

Lance BenickTotino-Grace, Minn.195 pounds, Sr.Benick captured his fourth individual state championship with a 17-7 victory over Worthington’s Carson Hagen in the Minnesota 2A final. Benick went 43-0 this season, the closest match coming in December when he topped ALL-USA second-teamer Bobby Steveson of Apple Valley at the Minnesota Christmas Tournament to avenge a loss last summer at the USA Wrestling Junior Nationals. Jordan WoodBoyertown, Pa.220 pounds, Jr.Came back from an early season injury that limited him to just 20 bouts on the season. Went 20-0 to win his first state championship after finishing second his first two seasons. Career record is 107-4. Was a Cadet World silver medalist in freestyle wrestling last summer. Zack Chakonis, Don Bosco Prep, N.J.285 pounds, Sr.Ranked No. 1 for the entire season, Chakonis finally won a New Jersey state championship after finishing second the last two seasons. Chakonis won the Beast of the East in December and topped Brick Memorial’s Nick Rivera 5-1 to claim the 285-pound title in one-class New Jersey. Went 32-0. Signed to wrestle at Northwestern.
