2018-19 American Family Insurance ALL-USA Preseason Girls Wrestling Team

The inaugural 2018-19 American Family Insurance ALL-USA Preseason Girls Wrestling team was selected by Earl Smith of OpenMat in coordination with USA TODAY High School Sports based on past performance, level of competition and strength of schedule.

Twelve girls from 10 different states are represented on this team, including two each from California and Pennsylvania. Wyoming Seminary (Kingston, Pa.) is the only school with multiple players represented on the team.

Plenty of star power litters this year’s team, including Minnesota native Emily Shilson, the first-ever American to win a gold medal in wrestling at the Youth Olympic Games; Mia Palumbo, the first girl ever in the history of Illinois to win a match; and Jerzie Estrada, who this winter will be going for her third straight state title in the competitive California.

School: Richards (Oak Lawn, Ill.) Class: Sophomore Weight: 106 College: Uncommitted Last school year, Mia Palumbo became the first girl in Illinois history to win a match at the Illinois tournament. School: Arbor View (Las Vegas) Class: Senior Weight: 112 College: Uncommitted This spring Peyton Prussin finished in fourth place at the Junior World Team Trials. All of the other seven placewinners at her weight class had either graduated from high school or were finishing their senior season. Prussin would then go on to make the finals at Junior Nationals. School: Wyoming Seminary (Kingston, Pa.) Class: Senior Weight: 117 College: Uncommitted Vayle Rae Baker captured her second consecutive Junior National title in Fargo this July. School: New Lexington (Ohio) Class: Junior Weight: 122 College: Uncommitted In October, Leilah Castro went to the preseason Super 32 and won a championship belt with a victory over a three-time national champion. School: Klein (Texas) Class: Senior Weight: 127 College: Uncommitted Mota-Pettis has gone undefeated in her last two years of high school competition, winning a pair of Texas state titles along the way. Class: Sophomore Weight: 138 College: Uncommitted As a freshman, Cheyenne Bowman was able to win a state title in California, the toughest state in the nation.
