American Family Insurance ALL-USA Preseason Wrestling Team

The American Family Insurance ALL-USA preseason wrestling team for the 2015-2016 season was selected based on performance, level of competition and strength of schedule. Two wrestlers were selected in each weight class.

Pennsylvania leads the team with 10 selections followed by four from Ohio and three from Minnesota.

Adam Busiello School: Eastport-South Manor (Manorville, N.Y.) Year: Freshman Noteworthy: Busiello is only a freshman, but he’s no stranger to the high school spotlight. He won a New York state title last year at 99 pounds as an eighth-grader after finishing second in seventh grade. A three-time middle school champion at the prestigious Super 32 tournament in Greensboro, N.C., Busiello kicked off his freshman campaign by moving up and winning the high school section of the competition this fall. Dylan D’Emilio School: Genoa (Ohio) Year: Freshman Noteworthy: D’Emilio enters high school coming off a big summer. First, he took home the freestyle title at Cadet Nationals in Fargo, N.D. Gavin Teasdale School: Jefferson-Morgan (Jefferson, Pa.) Year: Sophomore Noteworthy: Teasdale continued his globetrotting ways in 2015. After traveling to Slovakia for the 2014 Cadet World Championships, he visited Bosnia-Herzegovina this summer representing the USA in the same event. He also fit in a trip to Cuba, where he won the 50 kilograms (110 pounds) title at the Pan Am Junior Championships. Teasdale went 46-0 and won a Pennsylvania Class AA state crown last season. Roman Bravo-Young School: Sunnyside (Tucson, Ariz.) Year: Sophomore Noteworthy: Bravo-Young edged out fellow Arizonans Brandon Courtney and Danny Vega for this spot on the strength of his double at Cadet Nationals in Fargo, N.D., this summer when he won the Greco-Roman and freestyle titles. Spencer Lee School: Franklin Regional (Murrysville, Pa.) Year: Junior Noteworthy: Easily among the nation’s top pound-for-pound wrestlers, Lee enters his junior campaign coming off a win in the 50 kilograms (110 pounds) division at the Junior World Championships this summer in Brazil. It was Lee’s second world title after winning at Cadet Worlds in 2014. At the high school level, Lee is 97-0 in his first two years with a pair of Pennsylvania Class AAA state titles. Austin Gomez School: Glenbard North (Carol Stream, Ill.) Year: Junior Noteworthy: Gomez earned an Illinois Class 3A state title last season after finishing third as a freshman, and he stands at 90-5 for his prep career thus far. The Iowa State commit tore it up at the Pan Am Cadet Championships over the summer in Mexico, winning Greco-Roman and freestyle titles at 54 kilograms (119 pounds) and earning Outstanding Wrestler honors in both disciplines. Nick Suriano School: Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) Year: Senior Noteworthy: Suriano enters his senior season looking to become the fourth-ever New Jersey wrestler to win four state titles. And with a career mark of 121-0, he could become just the second in the state to make it through his prep career without dropping a match. Daton Fix (In red and Black) School: Charles Page (Sand Springs, Okla.) Year: Junior Noteworthy: Fix has yet to lose a high school match, going 73-0 and claiming a pair of Oklahoma Class 6A state crowns in his first two seasons. He nabbed a bronze in the 54 kilograms (119 pounds) weight class at this summer’s Cadet World Championships in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and he also won the freestyle title at Junior Nationals in Fargo, N.D. Chad Red School: New Palestine (Ind.) Year: Senior Noteworthy: Red posted a massive win to start his senior season and cement his status as the nation’s top 132-pound grappler. In the marquee weight class at October’s Who’s #1? tournament in Bethlehem, Pa., Red defeated Taylor LaMont (three-time member of the Cadet Worlds team) and Luke Pletcher (two-time Super 32 champ). Red, a Nebraska pledge, will ride that wave of momentum into his senior season as he looks to win a fourth Indiana state crown and improve on his 139-0 career record. Yianni Diakomihalis School: Hilton (N.Y.) Year: Junior Noteworthy: Diakomihalis nabbed his first New York state title as an eighth-grader and hasn’t slowed down since. The Cornell commit earned state crown No. 3 last winter and then upgraded to a world title this summer by winning the 58 kilograms (127.75 pounds) title at the Cadet World Championships in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Micky Phillippi School: Derry Area (Derry, Pa.) Year: Senior Noteworthy: Even in the talent-rich state of Pennsylvania, Phillippi still manages to stand out. He took home Outstanding Wrestler honors at last year’s Class AA state championships after capturing the state crown to finish 42-3 on the year. Phillippi will wrestle collegiately at Virginia. Mitch McKee (In gold) School: St. Michael-Albertville (St. Michael, Minn.) Year: Senior Noteworthy: Put simply, McKee can do it all. In the past two years the Minnesota recruit has won national titles in all three disciplines: Greco-Roman, freestyle and folkstyle. Jarod Verkleeren School: Belle Vernon Area (Belle Vernon, Pa.) Year: Junior Noteworthy: Verkleeren has conquered the nation and the world. Next up: Pennsylvania. In 2014, Verkleeren cruised to a freestyle title at Cadet Nationals in Fargo, N.D. This summer, he put on a show at the Cadet World Championships in Bosnia-Herzegovina, outscoring his opponents 40-5 in his four-match march to gold at 63 kilograms (138.75 pounds). Verkleeren hopes the momentum from that performance will carry over to the high school level where he has yet to advance past the quarterfinals of the Class AAA state championships. David Carr School: Perry (Massillon, Ohio) Year: Sophomore Noteworthy: Carr made a statement to open his sophomore season by winning a very strong 145-pound weight class at Super 32 in Greensboro, N.C. He posted a 60-2 record as a freshman last season and won an Ohio Division III state title at 138 pounds. Mason Manville School: Wyoming Seminary (Kingston, Pa.) Year: Senior Noteworthy: Manville moved from one wrestling power to another when he transferred from New Jersey’s Blair Academy to Pennsylvania’s Wyoming Seminary. The Penn State recruit brings quite the pedigree to the Blue Knights, having won the 2014 Cadet Worlds title at 69 kilograms (152 pounds). Manville began his career at Seminary in fine fashion this fall, winning his weight class at Super 32 in Greensboro, N.C., and defeating Hayden Hidlay at Who’s #1? in Bethlehem, Pa. Hayden Hidlay School: Mifflin County (Lewiston, Pa.) Year: Senior Noteworthy: Hidlay broke through this summer at Junior Nationals in Fargo, N.D., by defeating former world champ Mason Manville in a hotly contested Greco-Roman final. Hidlay is 81-5 over his past two high school campaigns and took third at 145 pounds at the Pennsylvania Class AAA state championships last season. He plans to wrestle collegiately at N.C. State. Alex Marinelli School: Graham (St. Paris, Ohio) Year: Senior Noteworthy: Marinelli enters his senior season with a pair of lofty achievements on the horizon. His career record of 152-4 puts him just 28 wins shy of David Taylor’s school record of 180 career wins. He is also within striking distance of 200 career victories, a feat accomplished by just 10 other Ohio wrestlers in history. A three-time state champ, Marinelli has signed with Iowa. Isaiah White School: Oak Park-River Forest (Oak Park, Ill.) Year: Senior Noteworthy: White followed up a dominant sophomore season in which he went 37-4 and won an Illinois Class 3A state crown at 138 pounds by moving up two weight classes and making it look even easier as a junior. He went 36-0 last season and won the state title at 152 pounds. He’ll move up to 160 this season eyeing a three-peat to close his prep career. Photo: USA Wrestling

Mark Hall School: Apple Valley (Minn.) Year: Senior Noteworthy: Last year’s American Family Insurance ALL-USA Wrestler of the Year, Hall was one of just two high schoolers (along with Spencer Lee) to compete at this summer’s Junior World Championship in Brazil. He finished ninth at 74 kilograms (163 pounds). The Penn State signee enters his senior season on a 123-match winning streak with a career record of 230-4. Chris Weiler School: Wyoming Seminary (Kingston, Pa.) Year: Senior Noteworthy: A national champion many times over, Weiler has dominated stateside for years. But he took things to the international level for the first time this summer and came away with another impressive result, earning a bronze at 84 kilograms (185 pounds) at this summer’s Pan Am Junior Championships in Cuba. Nick Reenan School: Wyoming Seminary (Kingston, Pa.) Year: Senior Noteworthy: Already one of the most decorated wrestlers in the nation, Reenan added to his hardware collection this summer. He kicked it off by traveling to Cuba and winning Greco-Roman and freestyle titles at 74 kilograms (163 pounds) at the Pan Am Junior Championships. Then he went to Fargo, N.D., and doubled up again by winning both titles at Junior Nationals. Dakota Geer School: Franklin (Pa.) Year: Senior Noteworthy: After losing his opening match at the 2014 Pennsylvania Class AA state championships, Geer has won nine in a row at state. Sam Colbray School: Hermiston (Ore.) Year: Senior Noteworthy: Colbray has claimed Oregon Class 5A state titles in each of his first three high school seasons, and has lost just once over the past two seasons. Blake Rypel School: Cathedral (Indianapolis) Year: Senior Noteworthy: Rypel has gone 94-2 over the past two high school seasons, taking second at state as a sophomore and winning the championship last year. Rypel is off to a hot start as a senior, claiming the Super 32 crown in Greensboro, N.C., with three pins over six matches. He will stay close to home and wrestle collegiately at Indiana. Gable Steveson School: Apple Valley (Minn.) Year: Sophomore Noteworthy: Steveson stepped out of the long shadow cast by his Apple Valley teammate Mark Hall this summer when he won the 100 kilograms (220 pounds) title at the World Cadet Championships in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Jordan Wood School: Boyertown (Pa.) Year: Senior Noteworthy: Wood’s junior year began with some serious adversity when he suffered a torn labrum and had shoulder surgery that kept him out most of the season. Osawaru Odighizuwa School: David Douglas (Portland, Ore.) Year: Senior Noteworthy: A multi-talented athlete, Odighizuwa has committed to play football at UCLA. As good as he is as a defensive lineman on the gridiron, he’s arguably even better on the mat. Odighizuwa has gone 91-0 the past two seasons to nab a pair of Oregon Class 6A state titles. Kevin Vough (In red and black) School: Elyria (Ohio) Year: Junior Noteworthy: Vough enters his junior season as a double Cadet World Team Trials champion after winning the 125 kilograms (275.5 pounds) division in both Greco-Roman and freestyle over the summer.
