Ty Hoglund, a 6-3 senior guard was the best player on the floor as Dell Rapids (S.D.) beat Tea Area, 80-71, last week. The guard scored 44 points and recorded seven steals and five assists.

Hoglund is averaging 40 points per game in Dell Rapid’s first three games this season and also eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career. A starter since his freshman year, he entered the season four points from the milestone.

A first-team Class A All-State player as a junior, he has signed with Dakota Wesleyan University.

Dell Rapids entered the week ranked No. 3 in Class A in the South Dakota Sportswriters Association poll and is coming off a 75-27 victory against Baltic.

For his efforts, Hoglund leads the American Family Insurance ALL-USA Performances of the Week.

The rest of the top performances as high school sports continue around the nation:

Kyle Guy, boy’s basketball, Lawrence Central (Indiana)

The ESPN.com five-star combo guard and Class of 2016 Virginia commit shot 80% from the floor and scored 31 points in a 67-61 win against Columbus East. The 6-3 guard is averaging 26.6 points per game.

Parker Chitty, a Columbus East guard, described how tough it was to defend Guy.

“We told ourselves we’ve got to try to hold Guy under 35 to give us a chance to win,” Chitty told The Columbus (Ind.) Republic. “And people say, ‘35? That’s a crazy number’ — but he’s that good. In my opinion, he’s Mr. Basketball.”

Trisha Wright, girls basketball, Union Grove Christian (Wisconsin)

The junior guard was spectacular this week, scoring a career-high 32 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in a 76-37 win over Early View of Milwaukee. Wright has tallied 72 points and 38 rebounds in the last three games for Union Grove Christian, all victories.

Jared Konen, boys hockey, Cambridge-Isanti (Minnesota)

Konen, a junior forward, scored three times and assisted on three other goals in an 11-2 win over St. Paul Como Park.

Amanda Ward, girls basketball, Windsor (Colorado)

Ward was the difference in a 57-54 win against Brighton in the Longmont Invitational Tournament. Ward tallied 29 points, 10 steals and four rebounds and averaged 19 points in three tournament games.

Devon Blake, boy’s basketball, Downers Grove North (Illinois)

When you’re on a three-game losing streak, you need a spark.

Blake provided that spark with his scoring an all-around effort, making seven three-pointers (23 points total) in a 70-51 win against Glenbark South. Blake followed that up with 26 points in a 67-58 upset over Downers South.

Kristen Timm, gymnastics, Hazen (Washington)

Timm participated in four events in a quad meet against Lindbergh, Evergreen and Tyee. Timm won all four and the all-around title with a total score of 29.8.

The forward tallied three assists in a 5-3 win over St. John Vianney, and then followed that up with a hat trick and four assists in an 8-2 win against St. Rose.

“It’s a great honor to be recognized like this, but it’s all about my team,” Ban told Gannett partner Asbury Park Press. “I have 21 points this year, and 14 of them are assists. I’m getting the puck to my teammates and they’re finishing, which is something we haven’t had a lot of in the past. My success comes from theirs.”

Karissa McLaughlin, girls basketball, Homestead (Indiana)

McLaughlin went off for a school-record 39 points in an 89-57 win against Bishop Luers. Homestead began the game with a 22-0 run, and McLaughlin scored 15 of those first 20 points.

Hameir Wright, boys basketball, Albany Academy (New York)

Wright tallied 26 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks in a 69-54 win over Green Tech, one of Albany Academy’s rivals.

“Outside of the game, I am friendly with the guys from Green Tech and we play ball all the time. Once we step through the lines, it gets kind of hectic,” Wright told the Albany Times Union. “We stayed together.”
