Alley Houghton, a senior forward for Lafayette (Miss.), scored five goals in a 6-0 win over Senatobia. The performance broke the state career goal record of 231, as Houghton now has 234.
“She’s a great kid who has worked her tail off,” Lafayette coach Melinda Scruggs told the Clarion Ledger. “She’s been a big asset for us, playing forward for us for six years, and she has a nose for the goal.”
For her efforts, Houghton leads the American Family Insurance ALL-USA Performances of the Week.
The rest of the top performances as high school sports continue around the nation:
Nathan Walpole, boys basketball, Whitko (Indiana).
Walpole had 54 points and 10 rebounds in wins over Southwood and Peru. He passed the 1,000 point mark for his career in the win over Southwood. Walpole is a junior, making the feat even more impressive.
Mikayla Pivec, girl’s basketball, Lynwood (Washington).
Pivec, an Oregon State commit, played an instrumental role in leading her team to three wins last week. The guard had 31 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists and five steals in a win against Shorecrest. Pivec averaged 23 points and 11 rebounds in the three wins.
Toby McBride, boy’s wrestling, Fort Morgan (Colorado).
McBride was outstanding in the Top of the Rockies wrestling tournament, winning all four matches—three of which came via pin and three were also in the first round.
Morgan Koepsell, girl’s basketball, McCook Central/Montrose, (South Dakota).
Koepsell was a workhorse in a 57-33 win over Flandreau. Koepsell scored 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Keith Smith, boy’s basketball, Rainier Beach (Washington).
Smith, an Oregon recruit, scored 20 points in a win over West Seattle. He doubled that scoring output in the following game, scoring 41 in a win over Bainbridge.
Alyssa Lindemann, girl’s basketball, Stayton (Oregon).
Lindemann scored 22 points in a 57-45 win over Junction City last Friday.
Jeremy Browning, boy’s soccer, Clarkdale (Mississippi).
Clarkdale beat North Forrest 6-1, and Browning influenced the game rather dramatically—scoring three goals and providing two assists.
Hannah Self, girl’s basketball, Tualatin (Oregon).
Tualatin beat Canby 62-38 and Self was instrumental in the win. Self had 16 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots.
Dakota Hurbis, boy’s swim and dive, Saline (Michigan).
Saline beat University School of Findlay Ohio, 110-73 over the weekend and Hurbis was dominant. Hurbis had an individual mark of 339.00—a new Saline diving record.
