2016 American Family Insurance ALL-USA Preseason Volleyball Team

The 2016 American Family Insurance ALL-USA Preseason Girls Volleyball Team was selected based on past performance, level of competition and strength of schedule.

The team features setter Ella May Powell and right-side Haley Warner, teammates from Fayetteville (Ark.), while Iowa leads the state race with three selections. Indiana, Michigan and Tennessee join Arkansas with two picks. Arizona, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Ohio, South Carolina, West Virginia and Wisconsin all have one honoree.

Gabby Curry School: Buford (Ga.) Position: Outside hitter Year: Senior Height: 5-8 College: Kentucky Noteworthy: The returning Gatorade State Player of the Year, Curry tallied 283 kills, 116 service aces and 508 digs during Buford’s perfect 41-0 campaign that culminated with a Georgia Class AAAA state title. Thayer Hall School: Dorman (Roebuck, S.C.) Position: Outside hitter Year: Junior Height: 6-3 College: Florida Noteworthy: The only rising junior on the 2016 USA Volleyball Junior National Training Team, Hall won 2015 Gatorade State Player of the Year honors after racking up 570 kills, 310 digs and 58 service aces while leading Dorman to the South Carolina Class 4A state title match. Paige Hammons School: Sacred Heart Academy (Louisville, Ky.) Position: Outside hitter Year: Senior Height: 6-2 College: Florida Noteworthy: Hammons tallied 420 kills, 249 digs and 64 blocks while leading Sacred Heart to the Kentucky Region 7 championship match. Marissa Hornung School: Providence (Clarksville, Ind.) Position: Outside hitter Year: Junior Height: 5-9 College: Purdue Noteworthy: PrepVolleyball.com’s National Sophomore of the Year in 2015, Hornung recorded 445 kills, 327 digs and 72 blocks to lead Providence to the Indiana Class 3A state championship. Mackenzie May School: Wahlert Catholic (Dubuque, Iowa) Position: Outside hitter Year: Senior Height: 6-3 College: UCLA Noteworthy: A member of the 2016 USA Volleyball Junior National Training Team, May tallied 460 kills, 224 digs and 50 service aces for Wahlert, which reached the Iowa Class 4A, Region 7 tournament semifinals. Meredith Norris School: Corunna (Mich.) Position: Outside hitter Year: Senior Height: 6-3 College: Michigan State Noteworthy: Norris tallied a mind-numbing 836 kills for Corunna a year ago on her way to being named to the Michigan Class B All-State team. Nia Robinson School: Cathedral (Indianapolis) Position: Outside hitter Year: Senior Height: 6-1 College: Northwestern Noteworthy: Robinson will be a leader for a Cathedral team that lost six seniors to Division I college programs. Taryn Knuth School: Johnston (Iowa) Position: Middle blocker Year: Senior Height: 6-3 College: Florida State Noteworthy: A member of the USA Volleyball Junior National Training Team, Knuth was named Second Team All-State after leading Johnston to the Iowa Class 5A state quarterfinals. Mariah Whalen School: Newman Catholic (Wausau, Wis.) Position: Middle blocker/outside hitter/right-side Year: Senior Height: 6-1 College: Wisconsin Noteworthy: Whalen had a huge 2015 for Newman with 697 kills, 310 digs, 112 blocks, 84 service aces and a .483 hitting percentage.
