Sidney Cooks, the nation’s fifth-ranked girls basketball recruit, will play at Michigan State, she announced in a ceremony Tuesday at her school, St. Joseph Catholic Academy in Kenosha, Wis.
Cooks, a 6-4 forward, made official visits to Wisconsin, Michigan State, Michigan, Purdue and UCLA.
A member of the American Family Insurance ALL-USA Preseason Girls Basketball Team, she led St. Joseph to a state Division 4 runner-up finish last season, averaging 23.1 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.7 blocks and 2.9 assists per game.

She spent the summer winning gold as a member of Team USA’s U18 National Team at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship. She averaged 10.3 points and 7.8 rebounds. She also won silver at the 3×3 U18 World Championship for Team USA.
Cooks’ destination was predicted by Michigan State men’s player Miles Bridges on Monday night, but she wasn’t biting.
With Cooks’ decision, all but one of the top 34 players in the Class of 2017 in the ESPNw HoopGurlz rankings has committed or signed. The long exception is Rennia Davis, a 6-2 wing from Ribault (Jacksonville, Fla.), which won the DICK’s Sporting Goods Nationals last season. Davis is also an ALL-USA Preseason selection.
