Lauren Cox is the No. 1 overall player in the ESPN HoopGurlz 100 and recently started her freshman year at Baylor for summer school. Last summer, Cox, a forward at Flower Mound (Flower Mound, Texas), earned her third gold medal, this time with the USA U19 National Team. Now she’s posting the last entry of her high school career in her USA TODAY HSS blog.
Hey what’s up guys I’m coming at you with my last blog of my high school career so I hope you’ll like this one.
It’s crazy that this is my last one!
I actually just tried out for USA Basketball. It was a really great experience. There were really great players here and great competition. It’s a huge blessing to be named to the team.
I can’t wait to play this summer.

My schedule at my school was pretty easy this semester; every Monday, Wednesday and Friday I’d get out at 11:30 a.m. I usually just came home, did my homework, worked out and then just hung out. It was pretty cool!
I have this workout from my coaches at Baylor that I’m doing to get me stronger so that’s been good. I actually go to Baylor today to start summer school!
My high school graduation is June 5, so I’ll go through the first week of summer school and I’ll come back and graduate.
I’m definitely excited about starting my college experience. I’m nervous, but I’m really looking forward to it. I think the biggest thing is just the freedom I’ll have and being on my own.
I think both of my parents will have a rough time with me leaving, but it might be a little tougher for my mom. I’ll be close so that’ll help a lot.
I don’t know what I want to study just yet, but I’ll decide that soon. I do know that one of my goals is to play in the WNBA.
I definitely think our team will be really strong this season.
We lost Niya Johnson and she was one of the best point guards in the country last year, but I don’t think that’ll hurt us too bad. We’ve got the two freshman bigs coming back and I think we’ve got a good core. I’m hoping we’ll be in the Final Four!
OK, getting away from basketball for a sec, I have to tell you guys I saw The Jungle Book recently and it was really good! I would definitely recommend you guys checking that one out.
OK guys I can’t believe it’s time to end my blog for good, but all good things must come to an end, right!
I truly appreciate your support and I appreciate you reading all this time.
Hopefully you’ll continue to support me next season at Baylor.
