Four-star wide receiver OrTre Smith committed to South Carolina on Sunday in a video produced by CampusInsiders and highlighting the Wando (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) star’s faith and family.
Smith was an American Family Insurance Preseason ALL-USA selection entering his senior season. He is ranked as the No. 16 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 1 player overall in the state of South Carolina by the 247Sports Composite.
His decision to stay in state is a significant get for Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp. He chose South Carolina over North Carolina, Clemson and Georgia.
The video release coincided with a birthday party and commitment ceremony at the Charleston Rifle Club.
Smith had 84 catches for 1,364 yards and 18 touchdowns last season.
“Coach Muschamp said I’m a priority and they needed me and I can contribute as soon as I get there. I saw the situation and how I can see myself there and fitting,” Smith told The State (Columbia). “It’s the best decision for me to get on the field as fast as I can.”
He plans to enroll in January after playing in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
