Chaminade (St. Louis) junior wing Jayson Tatum rose to the occasion in an 88-81 defeat of Stevenson (Lincolnshire, Ill.) in the Cancer Research Classic in Wheeling, W.Va., on

Friday. With Stevenson’s Jalen Brunson, a Villanova signee, scoring 48 points, Tatum responded with 39 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block to give Chaminade (8-2) the victory. Tatum is averaging 27.2 points and 9.7 rebounds a game.

Tatum had the American Family Insurance ALL-USA Performance of the Week. The rest of the top performances.

DiJonai Carrington, girls basketball, Horizon Christian Academy, San Diego

Junior guard had 32 points in a 59-54 defeat of Fairmont Prep (Anaheim) on Saturday. On Dec. 26, she had 29 points and 22 rebounds to lead her team to a 66-63 defeat of Helix (La Mesa).

Connor Curlis, boys ice hockey, Findlay, Ohio

Senior forward had nine goals and nine assists to help his team go 4-0 at the Miami Freeze Tournament over the weekend. He is the team’s all-time leading scorer with 156 goals.

Junior 120-pounder had two pins and then a 4-2 win in the championship to win his weight class at the Delcastle Invitational in Wilmington, Del., on Saturday.

Malik Newman, boys basketball, Callaway, Jackson, Miss.

Senior guard  had 50 points in an 85-69 defeat of Provine (Jackson). The American Family Insurance Preseason ALL-USA player is averaging 25.9 points a game.

Senior guard made all 10 of his field-goal attempts for 20 points in a 53-46 defeat of Mount St. Michaels (Bronx) on Dec. 29 in a semifinal game at the Josh Palmer Tournament in Elmira.

Senior guard scored  28 points, including seven three-pointers, in a 82-63 defeat of Gary West on Dec. 26 in the Hall of Fame Classic in New Castle, Ind.

Senior guard, who has signed with Pepperdine, had 28 points in an 83-40 defeat of Cy-Fair (Cypress) on Wednesday.
