ALL-USA Girls Soccer: Second Team

The 2016-17 American Family Insurance ALL-USA Girls Soccer Teams were selected based on performance, level of competition and strength of schedule. Players from states that play fall, winter or spring soccer were eligible for selection.

School: Forest Hills Northern (Grand Rapids, Mich.) Position: Defender Year: Junior Height: 5-10 College: Michigan Noteworthy: Ashby led the Huskies (20-1-3) to a second straight appearance in the Michigan Division 2 state final and another championship game loss. Forest Hills Northern earned 15 shutouts in 24 games and allowed just 11 goals. Offensively, Ashby chipped in with six goals and 12 assists. Photo: Robert Pearson

Position: Forward Year: Sophomore Height: 5-6 College: Clemson Noteworthy: Rated as the No. 19 recruit in the Class of 2019 by TopDrawerSoccer.com, Conti scored 33 goals and passed for 18 assists to lead the Patriots (24-1) to the South Carolina Class AAAAA state championship. School: Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) Position: Midfielder Year: Senior Height: 5-6 College: Southern Cal Noteworthy: A member of the U.S. Soccer Under-18 Women’s National Team, Jones tallied 32 goals and 13 assists for the Gaels (21-3-1), who reached the Nevada Class 4A regional semifinals. School: McGill-Toolen (Mobile, Ala.) Position: Goalie Year: Senior Height: 5-10 College: Coastal Carolina Noteworthy: Knapstein allowed just eight goals all season as the Yellow Jackets (24-2) won the Alabama Class 7A state title. School: Portsmouth (R.I.) Position: Midfielder Year: Junior Height: 5-6 College: Duke Noteworthy: Forced to sit out the first 10 games of the season because of Rhode Island’s transfer rules, McGuire still managed to produce 31 goals and nine assists in 11 games as the Patriots (17-2-2) won the Division I state title. School: Canon-McMillan (Canonsburg, Pa.) Position: Midfielder Year: Senior Height: 5-5 College: Pittsburgh Noteworthy: A natural defender, O’Donoghue scored 27 goals and dished out 20 assists as the Lady Macs (24-1-1) won the Pennsylvania Class 4A state title. School: Prosper (Texas) Position: Forward Year: Sophomore Height: 5-11 College: Texas A&M Noteworthy: Ordonez followed up a fantastic spring season by joining the U.S. Soccer Under-17 Women’s National Team for a training camp in May. Position: Defender Year: Senior Height: 5-8 College: Claremont McKenna Noteworthy: Ostrom was the anchor of a Houston defense that allowed just nine goals total over two seasons. Houston’s bid for a second straight Tennessee Class AAA state title ended when Franklin shocked the Mustangs (18-1-2) in the state semifinals, ending a 42-game unbeaten streak. Position: Midfielder Year: Senior Height: 5-5 College: Duke Noteworthy: Paschall scored 18 goals and passed for 13 assists for the Raptors (9-3-2) despite missing a pair of games because she was at a training camp with the U.S. Soccer Under-18 Women’s National Team. Position: Forward Year: Junior Height: 5-5 College: Virginia Noteworthy: With more attention paid to her than ever before, Serepca became more of a facilitator for the Huskies, dishing out 35 assists as Hough (20-2-2) advanced to the North Carolina Class 4A state quarterfinals. Position: Forward Year: Senior Height: 5-6 College: Penn State Noteworthy: Tagliaferri, the 2016 ALL-USA Player of the Year, missed the Cougar’s first nine games as she competed in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup.
